Race your way to a fast Shopify site speed

Our Shopify Experts team here at Insider Media Group know all too well the importance of having a Shopify store that not only looks great, but also works quickly and effectively to ensure a great overall user experience for customers.

One of the questions we are regularly asked by our customers is how to boost speed performance. Although many customers will be worrying about nothing as their sites are performing as they should, it is worth mentioning a few pitfalls that can negatively affect site speed and ways in which to tweak a Shopify site's performance.

Keep your site fresh

If you are using a Shopify theme, be it a Shopify premium theme or one of the free or offline themes that are available, it is very important to keep the theme updated to iron out any bugs or glitches that can cause the site to not run effectively which in turn can have a negative impact on site speed.

Keep it Clean

Shopify is a great platform but we all know that the standard 'out of the box' Shopify setup does have its limitations. To overcome these limitations many Shopify stores are built using custom code to ensure enhanced features and a heightened UX. In a similar way to making sure any themes are kept up to date it is also good practice to check any code to keep the code clean and bug free.

Keep apps to a minimum

How tempting is it to look at the Shopify app store and start clicking and adding apps to easily add new features to your store rather than having to write and develop custom code.

Apps to add instagram feeds, upsells and reviews can be quite essential to running a successful Shopify Ecommerce business. With that in mind it is essential to keep app use to a manageable level and to fully remove any apps, including any code if they are not being used. Over use of third party apps is one of the main reasons a Shopify site can lag and have site speed issues.

The above pointers are just a few ways in which to keep your Shopify site in good working order. For more advice and site assistance please contact one of our Shopify Experts at Insider Media Group
