If there was any doubt that online retail is here to stay then the new 2018 e-commerce report from Australia Post should dismiss those fears.
The report states that last year Australia enjoyed a whopping 18.7% increase in online spend that equals $21.7billion with 80% of the purchasing coming from local online stores rather than overseas. This figure compares to approximately 2% increase coming from bricks and mortar retail. This increased figures mean that $1 of every purchase within Australia is now made online.
It is not surprising that the majority of growth has been noticed coming from regional areas within Australia, where up until now consumers haven’t had access to leading brands without a trip to the city. We are not saying that you can now expect to see rural workers in Mildura decked out in the latest Prada footwear but it does give a huge amount of choice. In addition to brand and product choice, the introduction of buy now pay later options using AfterPay and ZipPay has had a dramatic increase in interest from both retailers and consumers, offering payment flexibility that exceeds the old fashioned method of lay-by as you actually get your hands on your purchases, before you have paid them off.
This surge in online shopping is now clearly not a phase so to take your business online and maximise the potential of online sales then talk to our team of in house Shopify Experts today to discuss unleashing your products to Australia, and the world.
